Sawmills

SDL Solutions continues to pursue our dream of optimising the tree harvesting cycle, having recently invested in our own sawmill has set a firm trajectory for collaborative, sustainable and full-circle wood pellet production.

Having SDL Sawmills which is highly-productive, based in Croespenmaen, South Wales, allows for a vertically integrated timber operation and full scale milling activities.
Sawmill Activities
The timber that we fell ourselves is transported to the sawmill where the team get to work transforming the material into useful forms for a range of industries. This operation is supported by our strong team of staff who have years of experience at the sawmill.
Processing
All parts of the felled trees are used, be it for bark, wood chip or simply sawmilled timber for use in construction and other industries.
Harvesting
Where It All Begins
The beginning of our process starts with the harvesting process. Despite the initial impression of felling a great deal of trees this sustainable management of woodlands is effectively a large scale farming process.
Material Management
Trees are planted in a similar way to sowing a crop of wheat, However, unlike the relatively rapid growth of wheat, trees require an entire generation to reach the stage of maturity suitable for harvesting. Once they have attained this maturity, we carefully fell the trees to be utilized at our sawmill for the production of timber goods, ensuring that no part of the tree goes to waste. Once the ground is clear the replanting can begin and the cycle repeats for the next generation.
Harvesting Teams
Our skilled and experienced tree team heads out to each plot to safely and efficiently remove the material with our fleet of harvesting machines. This gives us the capability to clear a large amount of material daily, supporting the local lumber industries.

From machinery operation, to felling, to material removal the SDL team are on hand to undertake whatever scale of work you require. Our comprehensive service allows us to be of assistance at any stage of site clearance projects, large or small.
Contractor Clearances
For large clearances, such as those for county councils and Highways, SDL have extensive experience delivering a professional and efficient service at all stages of site clearance.
Pellets
Wood Pellets
SDL Pellets is our state of the art wood pellet production plant, which is part of the SDL Solutions Group. Producing a range of wood pellets from equine to domestic and commercial heating - we guarantee you won't find a better quality wood pellet.

Harvesting
We work with generational forest and timber growers to sustainably fell trees that have been grown specifically for this purpose. Our dedicated team harvest the trees and then the timber is processed by SDL sawmills- leaving the land clear to be replanted.

Biomass
Biomass Fuelled Energy
SDL is powered by Biomass, along with our local area. We run a combined heat and power system using biomass fuel to provide sustainable, green energy to the local grid. This power also fuels our pellet line. By utilising material from site clearances and tip sites, we recycle this material from waste to an environmentally friendly resource.
Tip Sites
We run recycling sites around the country that tree surgeons and other members of the public 'tip off' green waste at. This material (chip, logs, brash etc) is then processed via screening and other methods to become useful biomass fuel.
Collections
We also collect wood chip and logs from tree surgeons all around the country using our HGV fleet. This material is processed by us at one of our sites and then brought to our main site to be used to power the boiler.
Machinery Hire

We offer both long and short term hire rates for our fleet of machinery. With highly trained and experienced staff at our disposal we offer an extensive range of site clearance & forestry machinery.
We have a diverse range of forestry and site clearance equipment, including; tree shears, forwarders, telehandlers, 360's, stump grinders and much more. Our fleet of machines includes support vehicles, such as lorries and tractors, and expert operators who have extensive training and experience working in a variety of situations.
Chipping Hire
Our team of Albach Diamond 2000's makes light work of chipping jobs, available for short and long term hire alongside support vehicles (Lorries, Tractors & Trailers). Our highly skilled operators can transform large amounts of round wood, cord wood and brash into woodchip within a matter of hours.
